Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today is the day that you have all been waiting for! Today we are proud to finally release Forgotten Hope 2.4! Below you will find the password for the pre-release files, a list of mirrors for the un-passworded 2.4 files, as well as some other important bits of information.

And now, without any further delay, the password for the Forgotten Hope 2.4 torrent files is:

Forgotten_Password_2.4_07.2011

Manual

Forgotten Hope 2 will install a Profile Folder separate from your Battlefield 2 Folder. Any questions you might have about this are answered in our Setup Guide, as well as many other general Performance and Configuration Tips.

Forgotten Hope 2.4 Setup Manual

Installation Instructions

To help you through the process of installing Forgotten Hope 2.4, we've prepared some step-by-step instructions. You will need to download only the incremental patch (1.7 GB) to play 2.4 if you have a clean installation of 2.3. If you have in some way modified your existing 2.3 installation, you will need to download part 1, part 2, and part 3 of the 2.4 full installer, totaling at 3.9 GB. Installing custom maps does not count as modifying your installation. After extracting the installer, just open the files and it should guide you through the rest of the installation, and then you are good to start playing!

If you've downloaded the client files without the password (you will find links to these files below) then all you have to do is run the .exe files and follow the instructions to complete in installation for either the patch or the full install.

On a final note, we here at the development team would like to extend a personal 'thank you' to both our testing team and our loyal fans. Without the continued dedication of these two groups to a mod that runs on a 6 year old game, the last 9 months of work would have been all for nothing. And it is for that we are truly grateful to all of our players. Thank you.

Last we have another Wallpaper, made by FatJoe, to keep you cool until Forgotten Hope 2.4 arrives tomorrow.

That's all for today, but be sure to come back tomorrow for the final update and the long-awaited release of FH 2.4. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. We hope you brought your flight jacket today because today we are highlighting the aircraft in 2.4 and how they have changed, but more importantly we are releasing the pre-release client and server files.

First up, we have the passworded torrent files. You will not be able to extract the actual client files until Friday, July 15th when the password is released, but in order to download these files, you will need to use one of the many bittorrent client programs that are available for free on the internet.

The following torrents contains the client files needed to properly play Forgotten Hope version 2.4. If you have an unmodified version of 2.3, then you will need to only download the 2.3 > 2.4 patch which is 1.7 GB. If you have modified your FH2 install in some way or do not have FH2 at all, you will need to download the full installer which a total of 3.9 GB split into three parts (1.6 GB, 1.8 GB, 555 MB). Installing custom maps will not modify your FH2 installation.

Patch from 2.3 to 2.4

Download the Forgotten Hope 2.4 Pre-Release Torrent (full - part 1)
Download the Forgotten Hope 2.4 Pre-Release Torrent (full - part 2)
Download the Forgotten Hope 2.4 Pre-Release Torrent (full - part 3)

Remember, you will not be able to access the actual files until this Friday. If you do not wish to download these torrent files, you can wait until Friday at 18:00 GMT to download the un-passworded files from a list of mirror sites.

If you are a server administrator and would like to have your server up and running by this Friday for the release, you can download the necessary files here.

Also be sure to register your server with our awards system as well, if you haven't already. You can register here.

With that out of the way now, we can get on with the third part to our series of gameplay changes. Today we will be revealing all that has been done to give the aircraft in FH 2.4 a fresh new feel.

In what is perhaps the biggest and most noticeable change, all aircraft use a new physics model, including a greatly increased role of gravity and stalling, stiffer flaps, and unique handling characteristics making every aircraft unique. In order to win the battle, use the plane's characteristics to your advantage.

Thanks to the hard work of Stubbfan and Kev4000, in addition to countless hours testing, we rest assured that upcoming aircraft physics are a major and definite improvement. After many revisions throughout the years, we have combined previous experiences, together with months of internal trial and error testing, in addition to reports from the World at War tournament.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the field of view has been widened as well, to give pilots improved situational awareness when flying. The gray area in the middle represents what you would see in the previous version, and the expanded colored area represents what you will now see from the cockpit in 2.4. Along with this, the rear camera view has also been added back into use, to give players an even better view when in combat.

Finally, it was deemed that the 400m convergence that was added to the aircraft in a previous release was too high of a value. It has now been lowered to 250m by azreal from Eat_Uranium's and Gunnie's original code, to make both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat more effective. To fully experience all that changed in 2.4, you'll have to wait until Friday, but for now, you can view this short gameplay video of a ground-attack mission below.

Update:
We have last minute information for Server Admins about
Registering a Server for the Awards

That's all for today, but be sure to come back tomorrow for more news. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.

12.07.2011 18:00 GMT

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. It is the second day in our series of release updates, and today we will be revealing the major updates to our tanking system.

However, before we get to all of that, we first have the changelog for version 2.4 for your viewing pleasure. You can download it here. Also, in case you haven't heard, Forgotten Hope, version 2.4 will be released this Friday, the 15th of July. Be sure to check back tomorrow to get the pre-release client files.

Since the inception of Forgotten Hope 2.0, amongst one of the larger problems was the tanking system. Armored battles were plagued with the problem of 'frontal armor accounting for nothing'. Also there was no limitation as to how fast your turret could move to name another major problem. However, thanks to the hard work of Kev4000 and the betatesters, the tanking systems have received a much needed overhaul.

Firstly, each tank has been updated to use what we on the development team commonly refer to as the 'Angled Damage Modifier'. This feature was present in Forgotten Hope 1942, and while previously thought impossible, has now been brought into the world of Forgotten Hope 2.4. This new addition will bring about the end of 'side-shooting tanks from the front'. When hitting highly angled surfaces from 60 - 90 degrees, the damage dealt will drop accordingly down to zero.

Also coming in 2.4 is our new turret traverse system. In previous releases of FH2, the traverse rate could not be set since players could alter this unfairly by adjusting their mouse sensitivity. This in turn made any intended balance and gameplay settings ineffective. Now however, this has been changed so that the turret of a tank turns in a much smoother manner, and is not effected as much by changes in sensitivity Finally, players now have the choice to either aim with their mouse or the arrow keys.

Other changes to the tanking system include a sharper turning radius and a decreased field of view. The gray area in the above screenshot represents what you saw in 2.3, while the area that is in color shows what you will see in 2.4.

But perhaps the greatest addition to the immersion factor in 2.4, is that high explosive projectiles now work and show up properly online. Immersion wise, this totally changes the feel of the game. You will no longer be killed by 'invisible explosions', as there will literally be 10x the explosions going off when you play online.

Up next we have some in-game screenshots of a tank that almost did not make it into the upcoming release. It's the M4A3 (76)W Sherman tank!

By the time of the Battle of the Bulge, the M4A3 was the main Sherman variant in use. While the base version was fitted with a 75mm gun, this one was armed with the more powerful 76mm M1 gun, and therefore, was more effective at knocking out enemy armor. The M4A3 (76)W was made by both Pointblank86 and Herc and was exported by Kev4000.

The last item for today is the fifth and final map that will be featured in version 2.4. This time, players will find themselves amongst a picturesque landscape with a vast array of powerful tanks and armored vehicles at their disposal. The map, Vossenack was made by Kettcar with the finishing touches done by Lili Marlene.

In the middle of September 1944, the allied advance was grinding to a halt. The rapid advance east after the collapse of the German forces at Falaise stretched the allied supply lines, the German forces on the western front were regaining their strength and were digging in along the Siegfried Line. Although the area had little strategic value for the allies, offensive operations were started in the middle of October, in part to keep as many German forces tied up to prevent them taking part in the defense of Aachen. After a month of heavy fighting the frontline had barely moved forward, so on November 2nd 1944, a new offensive was launched into the Hurtgen Forest, centered around the small town of Vossenack...

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we are very proud to announce that the release of FH 2.4 is finally upon us! This is a very exciting moment for us here at the development team, as the last 9 months have been filled with nothing but hard work and constant dedication towards the mod. So, it is with great pleasure that Forgotten Hope 2.4 will be released this week on..

July 15, 2011 @ 18:00 UTC

In the coming days leading up to this Friday, we will be releasing the pre-release client files, the server files, as well as the change-log for verison 2.4. On a more substantial note however, we will also be introducing several of the major gameplay changes that are coming in 2.4 as well. Be sure to check back daily to get the full story!

A special thanks to FatJoe as well for the above release image. You can download the wallpaper pack later this week.

The first order of business is that we'd like to announce that after several missed releases and agonizing delays, Forgotten Hope 2 will finally be introducing it's own awards system coming with patch 2.4! Now, on FH2's own website, you can track your kills, view your awards, and show off to your friends. Thanks to the hard work of FatJoe, Spitfire05 and ctz, our awards system will feature 11 ribbons, 14 traditional medals (each with a bronze, silver, and gold level), 11 historical medals (such as the Medal of Honor and Iron Cross), and 6 theatre-based awards.

You can view the website here to get a more in-depth look. If you are a server administrator and would like to register your server with our stats system, you can go through the process here.

With today's release announcement, we will start by introducing some of the more drastic changes that that have been implemented since the last release. Today's update will focus around the soldierly-side of things, but in the next few days we will also be revealing how the tanks and aircraft have changed in FH 2.4 as well.

The first major change to infantry combat is that the crosshair has now been removed from use. It is our hope that this will bring about longer firefights and reduce the amount less spray-and-pray present on the battlefield. We realize that many fans have voiced concerns against such a change, but we feel that after many months of testing, removing the crosshair will be a welcome change.

Next, thanks to the work of numerous developers, the overall movement physics of the player has been tweaked as well. The way you move, jump, and sprint has all been adjusted to give a more immersive, and yet still enjoyable experience. However, these first two changes are better experienced in the first-person, so we'll leave it to Friday's release for you to truly experience everything the infantry combat in FH 2.4 has to offer.

Our next addition is something that has finally been added to the mod, after being a popular suggestion for quite some time; smoke mortar rounds!

Thanks to this new round type, each and every faction will have the luxury of cover and concealment that only comes from large smoke plumes, even when a larger weapon such as a tank or howitzer is not available. The smoke mortar rounds were implemented by azreal with help from Spitfire05.

Our last item for the day is yet another, brand new map! This time we journey to a dense forest south of the town of Aachen, where both sides will have to use light armor support and small tactical maneuvers to overcome the enemy. The Battle of Hurtgen Forest was made by Knoffhoff.

October 6th, 1944. To support the US attack on Aachen, the 9th Infantry Division was ordered to attack enemy positions in the wooded area south of Aachen. During this first attack on Schmidt, the 39th Infantry Regiment's objective was to cross the Weisser Wehe valley, occupy Germeter and advance to Vossenack to secure the nothern flank of the attack. They were facing the German 275. Infanterie-Division, which was well prepared even though they suffered heavy losses in Normandy. Neither side expected this to be the start of one of the bloodiest battles on the Western Front, the Battle of Hurtgen Forest.

That's all for this week, but be sure to come tomorrow for more news. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. We have a rather large update for you today, as we have another map to show off, as well as the new US player models, and a brand new light machine gun. Enjoy!

Since the initial release of the Italian Army back in version 2.15, they have constantly received small upgrades and updates to make them a more fitting and unique faction to play as. Today we have something for the medics, as you can see from the screenshot above. It's Italy's own field dressing, which was re-skinned by Seth Soldier from the original field dressing which was created by Knoffhoff.

Up next we have something that is much more destructive than a field dressing. It's the ZB vz. 26, or MG 26(t) as it was known to the Germans!

The ZB 26 was a reliable and effective light machine gun developed in 1923 by a Czechoslovakian arms factory. The weapon featured a 20-round box magazine on the top of the weapon, a bipod, and fired the 7.92x57mm Mauser round. Soon after its adoption, the ZB 26 saw continued service with both Czech infantry and armored units. It even helped to influence other designs such as the British Bren Gun. However, soon after the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the weapon was adopted by the Wehrmacht and was renamed the MG 26(t). It served in the same role as the MG 34, and in FH2, the MG 26(t) will act as the primary German light machine gun on select maps. The MG 26(t) was made by Seth Soldier.

The next item for today is our third map that will be released in 2.4. Unlike the last two maps, this one centers around one of the most well known battles of the 1944-45 winter. It is the Battle for Bastogne, which was made by Schism!
With the landscape covered in a heavy snow, players will have to fight hard to either capture or defend the town of Bastogne. At your disposal will be a vast array of defensive and offensive weapons such as anti-tank guns and armored vehicles. You may also receive the luxury of fighter aircraft over head from time to time.

December 20th, 1944. The German offensive of December 16th had been a complete surprise to the allies. As the inexperienced allied divisions on the front line were destroyed by the German onslaught, the 101st US Airborne division was hastily called in to plug the gap. By the morning of December 19th the division had arrived in Bastogne. The next day, it was completely surrounded. Cut off from the allied supply lines, without any possibility of being supplied by air, due to the harsh winter weather and even without proper winter gear, the 101st had to hold out against an enemy who had been preparing their offensive for months...

Last but not least, we have a few in-game screenshots of the new US player models. Here you can see the airborne variant, which has been fitted with winter clothing for combat in the Ardenne, and will be present on maps like Bastogne. There will also be an army variant of these player models, which will be featured on maps like Meuse River and Eppeldorf. The winter American player models were done by Pointblank86, Remdul, and Kev4000, with the faces done by Zero.

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back tomorrow for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel and our public forums .

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope. Today we are presenting our second map to be included in 2.4 which, unlike Meuse River, features a cold, snowy landscape set in Luxembourg.

The map, 'Eppeldorf' was created by betatester Snoox, with additional level art done by Fenring. Players will find themselves this time fighting amidst a snowy landscape in Luxembourg for control of the main town. Available at your disposal will be a vast array of machine guns, anti-tank defenses, artillery assets, light-armored vehicles, and tanks.

December 16th, 1944. Three miles from the German defensive line lay the small village of Eppeldorf, located just on the border of Luxembourg. After an intense artillery barrage, the Volksgrenadiers of the 276th Division captured the town, but a swift counterattack by American forces pushed them back to the easterly outskirts. Now with the Germans gearing up for another offensive push, both sides prepare for battle, despite the already snowy conditions...
