Eastern Front Event

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are announcing our upcoming Eastern Front Event, that will be running between:

Friday 26th August to Sunday 4th September

We have decided to try something a little different with this event, and in addition to 2 maps from our pool of event maps, we are also adding 3 maps from the beta for gameplay testing. We hope to get some good feedback on how these maps play that can hopefully lead to their eventual full release in a future update to FH2. These three maps are:

Operation Little Saturn
by La Hire

This map is set in December of 1942, with the Soviet follow-up offensive to their creation of the Stalingrad Pocket crashing into the Italians dug in to the north along the River Don.

Pogostje
by John Tomasson

This map is set in the early part of 1942, at the site of a Soviet offensive to break through into the besieged Leningrad pocket. The Germans in this location have dug in on a reinforced railway embankment.

Prokhorovka
by Knoffhoff, Fenring and Matt Baker

This map is set on 12th July 1943 as part of the wider Battle of Kursk. The II SS-Panzer Corps and 5th Guards Tank Army would find themselves tangled in an armoured melee.

The full map list for the event is as follows:

  • Operation Little Saturn (64)

  • Pogostje (64)

  • Prokhorovka (64)

  • The Storm (16 and 64)

  • Kharkov Outskirts (32 and 64)

  • Arad (all layers)

  • Ogledów (all layers)

  • Operation Mars (all layers)

  • All other Eastern Front maps (16 and 32)

In addition to the event, we are also releasing a few bug fixes and features in the required patch. There have been changes to the gameplay of Operation Mars 32 and 64 layers, as well as other minor bug fixes to other maps.

Ekiso has been hard at work under the bonnet and has unlocked additional rates of fire for automatic weapons. We now have 3 new values to pick from, and you will perhaps notice that some weapons have picked up speed a bit. This has also allowed us to fix the MG42 crash. In addition to this, we have also implemented the fix to the recoil of high r.o.f. weapons not working properly provided by Alon and Mats391 from Project Reality.

Finally, rifle grenades have had their firing dispersion increased. This is countered by a much more usable crosshair with range graduations.

Vast Variety of Violence - Part 8

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a short but dense update. As you might remember from the last update, ModDB had been celebrating their 20th anniversary. Well, thanks to the votes of our fans we have achieved first place in their list of Classy Classics! A big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us.

Our next topic is another Event. We were impressed with how the D-Day Event went, and off the back of that success we have been planning further events. We will shortly be announcing the date for our Eastern Front event, so watch this space. There will be 2 maps returning from our Remembrance Event, as well as 3 maps that are being included for public gameplay testing as we did a while back for Motovskiy Bay.

When the first Sten MkII rolled off the production line it was fitted with the Butt No.2 MkII, perhaps better known as the T type. This was a simple tube of metal with a crude buttplate and semi pistol grip made of thick sheet steel welded onto it. The Butt No.3 MkI that our Sten has previously used was introduced by Lines Brothers when they began producing the Sten MkIII. This skeleton type was subsequently used by Long Branch in Canada to make MkII Stens, and since both were completely interchangeable it was possible to find any combination out in the field. The T stock was made by Seth Soldier as an addition to Hail of Nails' original model.

Finally today, we have the first compilation of 2.6 gameplay from Slayer:

Neutral Weapon

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Last time we announced that we are planning to feature the Norwegian and Belgian factions, and showed off the main rifle for the former. This time it is the turn of the Belgians to have their main rifle shown off.

Before we get to that however, we'd like to announce that we have been included in the list of ModDB's 20th Anniversary Classics. Go give their article a read and vote for the best Classic Mod of all time.

The Model 1935 Mauser was to be the Belgian's attempt to replace all their long rifles and carbines based on their original 1889 Mauser. It was a more modern design with the action being based on (and in some cases rebuild from) the German Gewehr 98, many of which had been provided as war reparations following the Armistice of 1918. Unfortunately the production of this new rifle was never able to meet the demand and many soldiers would be armed with the older 1889 rifles or the 1936 rifle, the latter of which was an 1889 updated to 1935 configuration.

The first Belgian rifles to be equipped with telescopic sights were the original 1889 Mausers during the First World War. They also received Turkish Mausers for this role from the British, with whom their snipers were trained. In the post war period, some captured German G98 rifles were taken into service for sniping, and the Goertz telescopes on these formed the basis of the newer M1935 Mauser snipers, either as originals or as copies manufactured by OIP.

Our 1935 Mauser was made by Seth soldier.
