De Gaulle's Tourneur

As we opened our fifth D-Day Event with an unusual field-modified vehicle that took part in the landings, we wanted to conclude the event with another remarkable field-modified vehicle used : one used during the battle of Bir Hakeim, which ended on June 11, 1942 and is now featured in the first part of recently released French film De Gaulle.

The 1939-1940 campaigns revealed to the Allies their lack of mobile anti-tank capabilities against an enemy deploying masses of tanks and overrunning static defences. One early solution was to mount anti-tank or artillery guns on the backs or tops of trucks and armored vehicles. This approach was further developed in the vast expanses of the Middle East and North Africa, where the Commonwealth forces used Bofors 37 mm or QF 2-pounder anti-tank guns mounted on Ford, Chevrolet, or Morris trucks.
The Free French, having pushed their Hotchkiss H39 tanks—salvaged from the Norway Expedition—to their limits during the Gabon and Syria campaigns, urgently needed affordable and mobile firepower. Taking advantage of the arsenal left behind by Vichy forces in Syria-Lebanon, as well as equipment recovered from Norway, their field engineers began mounting French artillery pieces onto various trucks.
The 1er Bataillon du Pacifique, part of the 1ère Division Légère Française Libre, installed several 25mm SA Modèle 1934 anti-tank guns on the rear of their available wheeled vehicles. The gun, stripped of its legs and wheels, was mounted on a central pole in the truck bed, allowing the gunner to rotate 360 degrees. This mobile anti-tank gun earned the nickname "Derviche", inspired by the Turkish whirling dervishes who spin during their prayers. Although the gun had already shown its limitations in 1940, it was still capable of knocking out German and Italian tanks in 1942.
During the battle of Bir-Hakeim in May-June 1942, the "Derviches" were integrated in the "Jock Columns"—small, highly mobile units with significant firepower—to conduct patrols and raids behind enemy lines. The "Derviches" and other field-engineered portees remained in service until the end of the North African Campaign, when Free French forces were re-equipped.
Our "Derviche" was made by CptBocquier from the Chevy 30cwt made by Rad and the 25mm SA Modèle 34 anti-tank gun by Seth Soldier.

J-Day

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

With the fifth edition of our D-Day anniversary event closing in, we wanted to show you a unique vehicle made especially for the allied landings, the LCA "SCAM" with J-Projectors.

In April 1944, it was decided that Ranger Force A, under the command of Lt. Col. Rudder, would assault the formidable cliffside coastal battery at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy. While planning the mission, the Rangers worked closely with the Combined Operations HQ, which had been working on a variety of devices to assist the British Commandos in rapidly scaling cliffs, a common obstacle during their raids along the Atlantic coast.

One of the devices that caught the Rangers' attention was a type of rocket-propelled grappling hook. These 2-inch launchers, known as J-Projectors, traced their origins back to British maritime rescue devices developed by William Schermuly. To facilitate their use during the assault, the planners launched Project SCAM, which involved attaching six J-Projectors on the gunwales of the Rangers' assigned LCAs for D-Day. Each LCA carried three pairs of rope boxes : one pair with plain ropes, another with toggle ropes and the last with rope ladders.

On June 6, Ranger Force A crossed the Channel in the two LSI(H)s, the "Amsterdam" and the "Ben My Chree", each carrying six SCAM LCAs. Due to the rough crossing, many of the ropes became waterlogged by the time of the landing, preventing them from reaching the top of the cliff. Of the 54 J-projectors on the LCAs, only 19 hooks successfully reached the cliff top. The crew of LCA 887, recognizing this issue, dismantled their remaining four launchers and carried them ashore, where they fired the rockets by hand using a battery.

Our SCAM LCA was made by Matt Baker, based on the LCA made by Toddel. The J-Projectors will be usable ingame thanks to the work of Ekiso.

You can check an ingame preview of the SCAM LCA in the video below !

Vast Variety of Violence - Part 11

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showcasing the main Norwegian heavy machine gun, the Colt M/29.

In 1929, the Norwegian Army adopted the Colt MG38B chambered in 7.92×57mm as its standard heavy machine gun, designating it the Colt M/29. After purchasing 100 guns directly from Vickers-Armstrong Ltd., Norway secured a license to produce the weapon at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk, with local manufacturing beginning in 1933.

In 1937, the decision was made to re-chamber the Colt M/29 for the more powerful 7.92×61mm round, also known as "7.92 TUNG". This modification provided greater range and stopping power, with anti-aircraft duty in mind.

The Colt M/29 was a water-cooled heavy machine gun with a rate of fire of approximately 650 rounds per minute. It featured a tangent rear sight adjustable to 3,000 meters and could also be equipped with a specific M/36 anti-aircraft sight or the Kikkertsikte M/31 (5× magnification) scope, manufactured in Germany by Hensoldt & Söhne.

During the German invasion in April–June 1940, the Colt M/29 proved its value as a cornerstone of Norwegian defensive efforts. Its high rate of fire and impressive accuracy made it a serious force multiplier for the frequently outnumbered and outgunned Norwegian troops. Approximately 958 7.92×57mm Colt M/29 were produced between 1933 and 1937, 1,708 Colt M/29 TUNG between 1937 and 1940, and an additional 400 units under German occupation.

Our Colt M/29 heavy machine gun was made by Seth Soldier and our Kikkertsikte M/31 and M/36 AA sights were made by Ashton.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.
Today we are showing off the submachine gun in use in the Belgian Army, the Mitraillette Modèle 1934.

Following World War One, the Belgian Army recognized the need for adopting a submachine gun. Rather than developing its own model, Belgium acquired a production license for the renowned German Maschinenpistole 28.II. Production started in 1934 at the Belgian manufacturer 'Anciens Etablissements Pieper S.A.', located in Herstal. The design remained nearly unchanged, and the gun was functionally identical to its German counterpart. In 1935 the weapon received its military designation - 'Mitraillette Modèle 1934' – with all units stamped with the 'MI 34 Schmeisser Bayard' marking.
Initially the MI 34 was issued exclusively to reconnaissance platoons of various Belgian infantry regiments. Its distribution was later expanded to armored vehicle crews, rearguard units and platoon leaders of the Chasseurs Ardennais – an elite light infantry unit specialized in border operations.
Export deals were also secured: the Paris Police purchased 1,000 units, while the Portuguese Police acquired some numbers chambered in 7.65×21mm. Due to the urgent need for weapons, Finland ordered 171 guns during the Winter War.
Approximately 1,800 MI 34s were produced for the Belgian Army between 1934 and 1940. Ours was made by Ashton and RedRogueXIII.
On another note, check out a new FH2 compilation from our dear Slayer1976 !

Bridge Head

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.
With the latest hotfix that we released recently, we fixed some issues and added some new historical features on some of our existing maps.
On the Gold Beach map, we now depict the 50th 'Northumbrian' Infantry Division shoulder patches for the British landing forces, mixed with Commando units, also with their distinctive patches. These latter ones have facial paint in the Gold Beach and Port-en-Bessin maps, as they historically prepared for their deployment on D-Day.

The British glider and parachute troops of the 6th Airborne Division assaulting Pegasus and Horsa bridges will also portray this facial detail on the night landing and early morning hours of the Normandy invasion.

Facing the Allied forces on Gold Beach, you will now find the 'Osttruppen' units, composed of a mix of regular German units and Ukrainian conscripts, belonging to the Ostbattaillon 441 of the 716. Infanterie-Division with their respective captured Russian weapons and equipment, such as the 8.2cm Granatwerfer 274/2(r) mortar or the 4.5cm Pak 184/1(r) anti-tank gun.

Our British playermodels, made by Remdul and Rad, received new British shoulder patches by Matt Baker while new Russian heads and British facial paint were made by Cpt Bocquier, based on the work of Zero, Pointblank86 & Rad.
A list of changes done in that hotfix can be seen in the 2.67 Hotfix Changelog.

That's all for today, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, our subreddit, and/or Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.

And so this is Christmas (War is not over)

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.
We will be running a new event over the Christmas season, bringing with it a few unofficial maps made by the FH2 and CMP team. The event will run with the map list below over the following weeks:
Saturday 20th December to Sunday 4th
The map list will be the following official maps:

Bastogne
Eppeldorf
La Hardt Forest
Meuse River
Operation Mars
Pogostje
St. Vith
Verdenne

As well as the following updated maps:

Foy
Hatten Rittershoffen
Herrlisheim
La Gleize
Operation Little Saturn
The Storm
Valirisk

In 1915, the Russian military began developing aerosleds, or 'aerosani,' based on commercial designs. These vehicles were used for reconnaissance, communication, transporting supplies, and medical evacuation. Initially equipped with unarmed three-ski models like the ANT-IV, NKL-6, and NKL-16/37, it was not until after the Winter War that the Red Army fully recognized their importance - not only in logistics but also in direct combat.
By the end of 1941, the lack of mounted armament on the NKL-16 aerosleds became a critical disadvantage, prompting the development of the NKL-26, a new armored and armed model with similar capabilities. Designed by N. M. Andreev and M. V. Veselovsky, the NKL-26 was operated by a two-person crew. It featured four individual skis, and its hull was constructed from plywood reinforced with a 10 mm armored plate at the front, which included an observation hatch for the driver/mechanic. The vehicle was equipped with a circular pedestal mount on top, fitted with a 7.62 mm DT machine gun for the commander/gunner. The NKL-26 retained the same powertrain as the NKL-16, using the M-11 five-cylinder, air-cooled radial aviation engine. This engine provided an operational speed of 30–50 km/h on ice. Mass production of the NKL-26 began in December 1941.
Aerosani battalions began operations in January 1942, integrated with combined arms units, primarily ski battalions, while occasionally conducting independent missions on the Northwest Front, the Moscow Front, and in the Staraya Russa area.

The winter campaign of 1942–43 marked the peak of aerosled deployment, with the most effective units operating on frozen rivers and lakes, such as Lake Ladoga and Lake Ilmen, as well as in the coastal regions of the Gulf of Finland and on the Karelian Front. Their most renowned combat action took place during the Novgorod–Luga offensive in January 1944, where aerosani played a decisive role in establishing a bridgehead south of Novgorod. Our NKL-26 was made by Jeandiz and Matt Baker.

In February 1943, the German Army General Staff explored the possibility of mounting a self-propelled 12.8 cm gun on a super-heavy tank chassis, intended for infantry support and engaging armored targets at ranges up to 3,000 meters. Emphasizing firepower and thick armor over speed, Henschel developed the Tigerjäger Ausf. B, mounting a 12.8 cm KwK L/55 gun in an elongated Tiger II "Tiger H3" chassis with a front casemate. The suspension, designed by Porsche, was similar to that of the Panzerjäger Tiger (P) "Ferdinand" tank destroyer.
The first Tigerjäger Ausf. B prototypes, later renamed the Jagdtiger, were produced in February 1944. Weighing 70 tonnes, the vehicle featured 250 mm of frontal armor on the casemate and 80 mm on the sides and rear. It was equipped with the Winkelzielfernrohr 2/1 optic, offering 10x magnification and a 7-degree field of view for aiming the main gun. In September 1944, a new suspension system developed by Henschel was introduced for series production.
That same month, Schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 512 and 653 were fully equipped with Jagdtigers. Their crews were composed of battle-hardened veterans, many of whom had previously fought in Italy, Tunisia, and on the Eastern Front, including during the failed Tiger II's assault at Oględów in August 1944.
The Jagdtiger saw its first combat during Operation Nordwind, the German offensive against U.S. and French positions in the Rhineland-Palatinate, Alsace, and Lorraine regions. However, the operation revealed the tank destroyer’s limitations: its poor mechanical reliability and mobility rendered it largely ineffective. At the start of Nordwind, only two Jagdtigers reached the front due to numerous breakdowns during transit. A few more arrived later to support the 17. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division and 21. Panzer-Division’s Kampfgruppe Liehr, participating in heavy armored engagements at Hatten-Rittershoffen.
Following this, Jagdtigers continued to see limited action in Germany and Austria until the end of the war in Europe. A total of 85 Jagdtigers were produced by April 1945. Ours was made by FHSWMan, Stubbfan and Matt Baker. We would like to give a special thanks to Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons for this beast.

This Jagdtiger was based on the Kingtiger made by AceS and Rad. We took the opportunity to update the render of this Forgotten Hope 1 veteran.

Last but not least, we wanted to share with you a new FH2 compilation from our betatester Slayer1976 to end the year with a blast !

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 6

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.
Today we are showing off Pogostje, the second and final map for our Red Christmas release. Being the first 1941 Eastern Front map in Forgotten Hope 2, it depicts one of the desperate attempts by the Soviets to relieve the siege of Leningrad during the winter of 1941-1942.
Before that, we are pleased to present you our trailer for this release:

From December 15, 1941 to May 8, 1942, the almost uninhabitable area with endless swamps near the Pogostje station on the Mga-Kirishi railway line became a tough battlefield between the XXVIII. Armeekorps and the Soviet 54th Army. The frozen railway embankment was turned by the German 269. and 291. Infanterie-Division into a kind of fortress wall with firing points, bunkers and a labyrinth of trenches.

On January 13, 1942, the Soviet 54th Army, being part of the Luban Offensive Operation, in an attempt to unblock the city of Leningrad, started the assault towards the German entrenched positions.

The operation did not achieve its operational goals and turned into a series of bloody battles for separate fortified areas. In less than 6 months, tens of thousands soldiers were killed around this small village.

Pogostje was made by John Tomasson. You can find the minimap and a preliminary vehicle listing here.

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 5

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Yesterday we introduced some pre-war trucks from the USSR, today we will have a lend-lease plane and an ersatz truck, depicting the dire situation for the Soviet Army in the first year following the German invasion.

From 1941 to 1944, the Soviet Union imported through the Lend-Lease agreement approximately 2,425 American-made Curtiss P-40's, from the B, C, E, K, L and N variants, making it the fourth numerous foreign aircraft in the Soviet inventory after the P-39, the Hurricane and the P-63.

The first deliveries of P-40B and C's alongside few Hurricane aircrafts arrived at Arkhangelsk on August 31st 1941, onboard the British freighter S.S. New Westminster City, part of the "Dervish" Convoy that opened the Artic route to the USSR. Those aircrafts were test flown by the 27th Reserve Regiment at the Kadnikov airfield to later be delivered to the different VVS KA (Red Army Air Force), PVO (National Air Defense) Aviation Regiments and the VVS VMF (Navy Aviation).

The Aviation Regiments started the war equipped with I-15, I-16 or MiG-3 but after losing these aircrafts during Operation Barbarossa, by early 1942, they started to replace them with P-40C's. Gradually and as a result of subsequent losses, they were replaced by the later P-40 variants such as the E or K.

The Soviet P-40's were deployed on all fronts and fought from the air in all the crucial battles like Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kuban, Crimea, Kursk or Karelia until 1944, when the shipment of this type of aircraft ended and new modern domestic versions replaced the older P-40 models. Our Curtiss P-40E was made by Rad, Lobo, Stubbfan, Herc and textured in soviet colours by Matt Baker.

At the end of 1941, due the proximity of the German Army to Moscow, the ZIS No. 2 factory was closed and production was relocated to Ulyanovsk, on the Volga and to Miass, in the Urals. It's in this context with an important shortage of raw materials that from February 1942, the ZIS production was forced to be simplified : round fenders were changed with angled ones, cabin was made in wood and the front bumper and right headlight were removed. From 1942 to 1948, a total of 207,260 trucks of this simplified version, called ZIS-5V, were produced.

At last for today, we also wanted to write something about an existing content ingame that we never mentionned here, the Zwillingssockel 36.

This early anti-aircraft system consisted in a single pedestal with a 360 deegres traverse and equipped with two 7.92 mm Maschinengewehr 34s. The operator sat in a chair at the rear and took aim using a height-adjustable ring sight installed between the two MGs. Entering service in 1936, it was used on static light anti-aircraft positions, for instance on WN 64 at Omaha Beach, or used on board on towed wagons, light cars, halftracks and of course trucks like the Opel Blitz 3.6-36S.

Although the production stopped in 1941 given the limitation of the system, leaving room for more capable guns like the 2 cm FlaK, it remained in service practically the entire conflict. Our Zwillingssockel 36 was made by ctz. It is mounted on the Opel Blitz from Mange and jimbob, with the panzergrau texture by Toddel.

Last but not least, we would like to share with you the FH2 2.65 Panzerfaust compilation from our dear Slayer1976:

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 4

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

While the Soviet Army was introduced in Forgotten Hope 2.5, it has been equipped since then with lend-lease trucks. Today we introduce what would be ingame the main soviet trucks in the early stage of the war, the ZIS trucks.

The ZIS-5 was one of the central pillars and workhorse of Soviet logistics and transportation alongside the GAZ AA and MM truck series during World War Two and beyond.

In 1933, at the Moscow Automobile Plant (AMO), the production of the two-axle, three-ton AMO-5 truck started, for commercial and military purposes. Although it was a license-built copy of early 1930s American commercial trucks, it was manufactured like its predecessor, the 2.5-ton AMO-3, with Russian components and not with American truck kits. After the factory was renamed to Factory No. 2 Zavod Imeni Stalina (ZIS), the truck's designation was also changed accordingly to ZIS-5.

In parallel, a three-axle version was also produced, designated ZIS-6. This version, like the previous one, served as a base for a lot of specialized versions for different purposes like halftracks, ambulances, and fuel or water tankers among others, the most famous one being the multiple rocket platform "BM-13 Katyusha". Some of them where also equipped with the 7.62 mm anti-aircraft "ZPU M-4" mount. From 1933 to 1941, the total production of the ZIS-5 truck were produced 325,051 units, while 21,239 units of ZIS-6 were made.

The ZIS trucks had a crucial role during the "Road of Life", the transport routes that supplied with food, ammunition and other equipment the Leningrad pocket through the ice roads of the lake Ladoga during the winters of 1941-1942 and 1942-1943.
Although by July 1944, the majority of new vehicles in the Red Army service came from the Lend-Lease deliveries, like the Studebaker US6, the Red Army was still heavily dependant of the ZIS and GAZ trucks variants. Ours were made by Tedwin-Knockman666 and Matt Baker.

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 3

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showcasing some elements that were recently updated : the US Army playermodels during the Fall and Winter of 1944.
With the release of the 2.4, Forgotten Hope 2 introduced the intense fights of the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge. While the German soldiers in late 1944 were featured in some news, we never took the case to actually showcase the changes that occured on the uniforms of the American soldiers.

As depicted in the fields of Normandy ingame, the various units from the US Army operating in Europe used a variety of clothing like the cotton M1941 Field Jacket, the cotton twill M1942 Paratrooper uniform or in some rare case the Herringbone twill (HBT) utility uniform. While most of the soldiers used basic tanned leather shoes with heavy canvas leggings, the paratroopers dropped with distinct jump boots.

Many criticism depicted these uniforms as inadequate, like the Olive Drab (OD) n°3 shade of the M1941 Field Jacket that gave poor concealment in the European theater or the lack of large pockets. Another example was the paratrooper trousers that were prone to tore around the knees or the crotch.

A new design was pushed by the Army consisting of a standardized M1943 field jacket issued in Olive Drab (OD) n°7, with two large breast pockets and two skirt pockets. No big changes were made on the trousers but various buttons and a looser fit. To replace the boots and gaiters for all units the M1943 Combat Service Boots was introduced, including a leather cuff that can be quickly fastened with a pair of buckles. While the first tests of the new M1943 uniform occured in Italy in 1943, the logistical situation prevented the use of the new design during the Normandy landings.

Paratroopers received their M1943 uniforms just after D-Day engagments, while the rest of the US Army in Europe slowly got issued, making it more widespread in Late 1944.

Ingame, the paratroopers from the 101st Airborne fighting in Bastogne are all wearing the M1943 uniforms, even if a lot of troopers kept elements of their M1942 uniforms, notably their jumping boots that were less subject to getting caught in a parachute. GIs fighting in the Hurtgen Forest receive a mix of M1943 uniform and older elements, same for Rangers supporting them. Finally the various units caught in the German Offensive through the Bulge wear a majority of M1943 uniforms, even if some soldiers also use the M1938 Overcoat Mackinaw. Small details like mittens, gloves or scarfs have been repartited through all playermodels depending on the season.

While the webbings and gear elements are unchanged, the gear repartition has been remade to underline the task differences carried by each type of unit (Paratroopers, Rangers or simple soldiers). Some helmets and vests also received their divisional emblem or recognition markings, following the pride carried by the soldiers to be a part of a unit or the essential need to quickly recognize a soldier's assignement.

The base Winter American playermodels were done by PointBlank86, Remdul, Kev4000, with the faces done by Zero and were reworked by Cpt Bocquier.

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 2

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today, we are showcasing the first map of this release, Verdenne. Some of you have already experienced this map as a Christmas event map; it is now entering the official rotation. Join the American troops trying to set up a cohesive defense line, or follow the German panzers through the dense forests and villages before the Allies regain their air superiority.

It is Christmas Eve and the German Ardennes offensive is starting to run out of steam as more and more allied reinforcements and airpower start to pour into the Battlefield.

In an effort to rekindle the advance towards the Meuse river, elements of 116. Panzer-Division use the bad visibility to infiltrate into American lines near Verdenne and Bourdon. A confused battle ensues, with elements of the US 84th Infantry Division bypassed in the village and German tanks lumbering through the foggy forests.

Verdenne was made by Ts4EVER. You can find the minimap and a preliminary vehicle listing here.

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.66 Red Christmas - Part 1

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

As we get closer to summer, Forgotten Hope will provide some fine refreshments to cool you down. We are excited to announce that our update 2.66 Red Christmas will be released on:
Tuesday 17th June 2025

To start our usual stream of "Road to" news gently, we propose a new addition to the Soviet hand weapon arsenal.

In the mid-1920s, the Soviets were interested in developing a sniper rifle program and started a series of trials with ordered German commercial scopes like the Zeiss Zielvier and Busch Visar N°5 scopes, attached to their M/91 Dragoon rifles. While those German manufacturers started producing modified scopes and mounts following Russian demands, local designers such as A. Smirnsky developed a top mount for the scopes. In early 1930, the Main Artillery Directorate selected the Busch Visar scopes on the Smirnsky mount. The Busch Visar was favored notably for its windage adjustment options.

Following improvements, the Soviets started the production of their own copy, designated as "Rifle Scope Model 1931" with a 3.87x magnification. In 1933, the scope would get its final appearance, with the central box shape being rounded at the corners and external locks removed. Mass production then started for the scope, now coded "PE". Approximately 47,237 scopes were produced between 1933 and 1937, when the simplified version of the scope, known nowadays as "PEM", was preferred.

Soviet M91/30 rifles with PE scopes were the most numerous captured sniper rifles in Finnish inventories from the Winter War through the Continuation War and were designated Tarkka-ampujakivääri M/30. German troops would also use them under the name Zielfernrohrgewehr 256(r) . Our PE scope was made by Frimenitnet and Ashton, mounted on the Mosin Nagants made by Seth Soldier.
