Hello and welcome back to another update of our progress in developing Forgotten Hope 2. First up this week we have a new map by Lobo to show: the quintessential North Africa theatre battle -- El Alamein. First, some historical background on the battle which signalled the turning point and the beginning of the Allied victory in North Africa.
"In July 1942, Erwin Rommel and the Italo-German Panzer Armee Afrika were only 70 miles from Alexandria. El Alamein was a last stand for the Allies in North Africa. To the north of this apparently unremarkable town was the Mediterranean Sea and to the south was the Qattara Depression. El Alamein was a bottleneck that ensured that Rommel could not use his favoured form of attack - sweeping into the enemy from the rear in a pincer movement. A violent series of assaults between July & early September were bravely repulsed. Rommel's nose had been bloodied and now Monty's 8th Army would take up the offensive. The gruelling fight lasted from October 23rd to November 3rd 1942."
Next up, we have in-game screenshots of the Flak 18 88mm gun (shown last time) in dug-in defensive positions. The model was by Arisaka, and skin was by jimbob and Rad. This was exported and coded by jodonnell and ctz. Sounds were provided by Citizen Soldier (incidentally, who we'd like to wish the best of luck to in his current tour of duty) and our betatester Bratwurst.
Finally, we have in-game screenshots of the AEC "Dorchester" 4x4 Armoured Command Vehicle by ctz and Toddel (both the British and captured German version). Coding in both cases was by ctz. The commander can make use of his assets when sitting in the passenger position in these vehicles.
