Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Happy New Year everyone, we hope you all have had a good start to 2023. To get the year going we will start with a weapon that even internally was a bit of a surprise with its sudden appearance. That would be the Beretta Model 38/42.

While the Beretta Model 38 was a very well made and regarded weapon, it shared the same problem as all the pre war submachineguns: cost. The Model 38/42 did away with a number of features, most prominently the barrel shroud and the forward part of the stock. The barrel was heavily fluted to save weight but eventually even this would be dispensed with. Tangent rear sights were swapped for two position flip ups and the magazine well cover was removed.

It would however be the Germans who would get the most use out of the simplified Berettas, continuing their production after the surrender of Italy and even moving to replace MP40 production later in the war. It is in this guise that you will find this weapon used in FH2, replacing the Model 38 on (most) German maps. Like our revised Model 38, it was made by Ashton and RedRogueVIII.

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, our Twitter, our subreddit, and/or Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.

Vast Variety of Violence - Part 9

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Before we begin today, December has come round yet again and that means that ModDB are running their Mod of the Year competition yet again.

Mod of the Year Awards

We'd really appreciate you sending a vote our way, and as a thank you we have an upcoming French weapon to show off.

The M1921 Thompson submachine gun was the first production model of John Thompson's "trench broom". Produced by Colt for Auto Ordnance in a single batch of 15000 in 1921, sales of this very expensive weapon were slow. By 1938 there were still 4700 unsold, and with the threat of war in Europe picking up the French placed an order for 3000 of them.

The French found their Thompsons to be too heavy and expensive, and most were in storage during May 1940. The majority that were issued went to gendarmes and a few to tank destroyer crews. In the Vichy period, more of these guns were issued out, and it is in this context that the Mle 1921 will see service in FH2. Ours has been modified by Ashton from PointBlank86's original M1928.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off the weapon that formed the main firepower of the Norwegian infantry squad in 1940, the venerable Madsen light machinegun.

Often referred to as the worlds first practical light machine gun, the Madsen was co-developed by three Danes - Vilhelm Herman Oluf Madsen, Theodor Schouboe and Julius Rasmussen. It began in the 1880s as a semi automatic rifle, but was eventually developed into the fully automatic form that would be adopted by the Danish Army in 1903.

The Norwegian Army showed an early interest in light machine guns. Initially deciding on the Hotchkiss Portative in 1911, the Madsen was adopted as it's replacement in 1914 with production starting at the Kongsberg Arsenal. Unfortunately the M/14 Madsen did not behave as reliably as expected. The relatively weak 6.5×55mm cartridge performed badly with the recoil-driven mechanism of the gun, and its complex design required gunners to have extensive knowledge of the inner workings to solve frequent mechanical issues.

Improvements were needed, and the Danish M/18 design was chosen as the basis for a replacement. A reworked feed mechanism combined with a muzzle booster device improved reliability, but did not completely fix the issues which plagued the weapon. After a period of trials this new version was adopted as the M/22. By 1940 about 3500 Madsen light machine guns of both M/14 and M/22 manufacture were available to the Norwegian Army. This number made it possible to equip every infantry squad with one Madsen, making the weapon a common and valuable asset for the Norwegian forces facing the German invasion in 1940. Our Madsen M/22 was made by Ashton.

The Road to Forgotten Hope 2.63

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

We are pleased to announce that Forgotten Hope 2.63 is now live! You can download it by starting the Launcher. New and returning players can download the launcher from our downloads page. We hope to see you on the battlefield!

We'd like to thank everyone who turned out for our Eastern Front Event and who gave feedback on the 3 beta maps that were included. We picked up a lot of useful information on all 3.

This update is the final part of some fixes and features that were slated for inclusion in the Event Patch. Most notably:

  • Defenders in maps with dynamic out of bounds zones will now see exactly how long they have before the playable area shifts while they are in the zone that will be affected

  • The time before the defender's out of bound zone shrinks has been increased

  • Changes to the handling of machineguns and pistols following the previous recoil fix

  • The Browning Automatic Rifle now uses the firerate selection to switch rate of fire, instead of switching to the other weapon slot

You can see the full list here. We hope to see you on the servers soon!

That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our Discord, our public forums, our Twitter, our subreddit, and/or Facebook pages to discuss this update and other news.
